Man is not meant to be alone. We are all by nature social creatures, so isolation is not something that caters to the human condition. In this piece, the chair represents faith. I have used it several times before, and it personifies faith because it takes faith to sit in it. Although we rarely think of faith in these terms, we only realize we place faith in the chair if the chair fails to support us. So the idea is that, when isolated, even faith can be destructive because we begin to define morals, values, and truths based on our own personal whims and agendas.
