For me, art is a redemptive process. It is taking nothing and creating it into something. It is finding ways to express beauty despite the ugliness of the world surrounding us. It is redemptive because it does not simply happen--it is intentional and premeditated. That is the idea within this piece. The image of the paintbrush seems to be at war with the harsh neutrality of the colors surrounding it and is threatened to be overcome by them, but it grasps onto a sliver of color as if to say that it has yet to lose hope.
